RECIPE SUBMISSION PERIOD

Recipe submission period for the 2022 Giant BBQ Battle Virtual Experience Contests (the “Contests”) begins on Friday, May 27, 2022, and ends on Friday, June 17, 2022 (the “Submission Period”).  All recipes must be submitted online by visiting the www.BBQDC.com/contest event website and clicking on the desired contest.


JUDGING PERIOD

Judging for the Jr. Chef Competition Contest Presented by Kingsford shall be conducted in Two Rounds. The First Round will be done via a “People’s Choice” popular vote on www.BBQDC.com.  Finalists in this round will be determined by the most successful (popularly voted) entrants by the end of the contest period, subject to Sponsor’s consideration of votes.  First-round judging shall begin on May 27 and conclude on June 22, 2022, subject to change at Sponsor’s discretion. Judging in the popular vote contest is limited to real individuals only and any method of cheating (eg. bots, fake accounts) will result in immediate disqualification. Entrants are encouraged to invite friends, family, coworkers, and any others they know to vote for them. Finalists will be selected from this round and advance to the second round. The Second Round will consist of celebrity judging of the finalists selected from the first round.  Finalists’ dishes will be presented to the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Judging Committee likely to consist of Celebrity Athletes, BBQ Pitmasters, Professional Chefs, and Industry Experts. The celebrity judges will decide the winner on June 24, 2022. Winner will be announced at the Giant National Capital BARBECUE BATTLE® on June 25, 2022. Winner will be announced at the event and finalists must be in attendance to win. Time and location on site to be sent to finalists upon completion of the first round, subject to BARBECUE BATTLE® Inc. and D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation [herein referred to as Sponsor(s)] approval.


ELIGIBILITY

The Contest is open only to legal youth residents of the United States residing in DC, Maryland, or Virginia who are Seventeen (17) years old or younger at the time of entry (the “Entrant” or “Entrants”). Employees, contractors, and interns of BARBECUE BATTLE® Inc., Kingsford, and the Department of Parks and Recreation. and each of their respective divisions, affiliates, parent companies, subsidiaries, advertising, and promotion agencies are not eligible to enter the Contest. In order to enter the Contest or win a prize in this Contest, the Entrant must comply fully with these Official Rules, and by entering agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of BARBECUE BATTLE® Inc., whose decisions shall be binding and final in all respects. Entrants are eligible to win one (1) prize in this Contest. PRIOR WINNERS ARE NOT ELLIGABLE TO COMPETE IN THE COMPETITION. TO WIN FINALISTS MUST BE AT THE GIANT BBQ BATTLE EVENT AT THE TIME SET BY SPONSOR.


HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST AND SUBMIT A RECIPE

An Entrant should log on to www.BBQDC.com/contest (the “Website”) during the Submission Period, click on the Contest banner and follow the instructions for entry. The Entrant will be redirected to the Kansas City Barbeque Society website www.kcbs.us to register for the contest and upload their entry. The Entrant must provide all requested information in the required fields including full name, email address and ZIP code along with filling in all boxes marked for the recipe (the “Recipe” or “Recipes”) as instructed on the Website. The Entrant should then click “submit” to be entered in the Contest (the “Entry” or “Entries”). In the event the Contest is entered via a mobile device, message and data charges may apply.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY SPONSOR BY 5:00 P.M. ET ON JUNE 17, 2022 (THE “SUBMISSION DEADLINE”). NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME.

Entries for the Contest will not be accepted through postal mail, hand-delivery, express mail delivery, or email.

Entrants are allowed to submit one (1) time, any additional entries will be dismissed and any attempts at repeated entry may result in disqualification.

Sponsor and The Kansas City Barbeque Society will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, or misdirected Entries.


CONTEST RULES

  1. The DPR Cookery202 & Giant BARBECUE BATTLE® are looking for original dishes to showcase to its audience. The dish must be the Entrant’s own original creation. The Entrant may use other recipes and dishes for inspiration, but Entrant must use his/her/their own unique ingredient and cooking instruction changes in order for the dish to be considered.
  2. To enter the Entrant must submit the following:

A photo of their finished Dish, plated, showing:

  • The final dish fully prepared to show appearance and tenderness.
  • Name of the Dish in caption form: (John’s Chicken Tenders, Ruby’s Ribs, Dinosaur Dinner, etc.)

The category of dish:

      1. (a) CHICKEN – PERDUE SIZZLIN’ CHICKEN CONTEST
      2. (b) BEEF – NATIONAL BEEF CHAMPIONSHIP
      3. (c)PORK RIBS – SMOKIN’ WITH SMITHFIELD
      4. (d) VEGETARIAN

(If a file is corrupt or not working, we will make one (1) attempt to gather a different file from the contestant.)

An Entrant may submit only one (1) entry and that entry must be one of the categories listed. An Entrant may enter the contest only one (1) time.

  1. Each Entrant must list the category along with their first and last name as the name of the electronic file to be submitted: (i.e., “Johnny Doe, Chicken,” “Billy Blank, Ribs,” etc.).
  2. The Recipe should never have been published before, nor won any other prize nor been submitted or entered in any other recipe or food preparation contest. BARBECUE BATTLE® will disqualify previously published Recipes, such as, but not limited to, those in major cookbooks, in magazines, from food companies, or on major food or recipe websites.
  3. By submitting the Recipe in this Contest, the Entrant grants the Sponsor and The Kansas City Barbeque Society unrestricted use of the submitted entry which includes the right to publish the Recipe and any other information provided worldwide in all print and electronic media (now or hereafter existing) without time limitation, and the right to include the Entrant’s hometown (e.g., city and state) in connection therewith. Sponsor reserves the right to edit, modify, translate, reproduce, and distribute the submitted material in any medium and in any manner as it deems appropriate.
  4. By entering the Contest, Entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted Recipe is an original work created solely by the Entrant, that the Recipe does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the Recipe.

Judging/Selection and Notification of Winners

JUDGING

The recipes will be judged by a team of judges likely to consist of Celebrity Athletes, Professional Chefs, and TV BBQ Pitmasters (the “Judges”) based on the following criteria:

(a) Relevance – Relevance to the Barbecue theme of the Contest and overall appeal of the Recipe (33%).

(b) Creativity – Is the Recipe exciting? Does it look like the entrant had a fun time making it?  (33%); and

(c) Preparation – ease of preparation, is the recipe practical (e.g., does not require special cookware or ingredients) (33%).

A total of three (3) winners will be selected (the “Category Winner” or “Category Winners”) based on the Culinary School Judging Criteria.

Decisions of the CS Judges are final and binding on all matters related to this Contest. The CS Judges will disqualify previously published dishes, such as but not limited to those in cookbooks, in magazines, online, from food companies, and winners in recipe contests, unless the dish features changes considered significant by the CS Judges, in their sole and absolute discretion. Finalists will be required to certify, on information or belief, that their dish is their original creation and has not been published or publicized, and has not been recognized as a winner in a recipe contest. The CS Judges reserve the right to change Recipe names or assign entries to the Category they deem appropriate. Decisions of the CS Judges are final in all matters relating to this contest.

Odds of Winning

Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible Contest entries received and the quality of the Recipes received, as judged pursuant to these Rules.

Prizes

A total of three (3) prizes will be awarded.

FIRST PLACE:

  • DPR Cookery202 Chef Coat & Chef Hat;
  • Lead culinary class at Kennilworth Recreation Center teaching kitchen;
  • Deluxe Grill Set and $500 Giant Gift Card;
  • Feature on DPR website;
  • Grand Prize Winner Trophy

SECOND PLACE:

  • $500 Giant Gift Card;
  • Feature on DPR website;
  • Second Place Winner Trophy

THIRD PLACE:

  • $250 Giant Gift Card;
  • Feature on DPR website;
  • Third Place Winner Trophy

All winners receive Individual Annual membership to the Kansas City Barbeque Society; a $40 value.

ANY ANNOUNCED WINNER WHO IS NOT AT THE AWARD CEREMONY AT THE GIANT BBQ BATTLE EVENT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND THE NEXT HIGHEST ENTRANT WILL RECIEVE THEIR PRIZE(S).

Award Notification

Each of the Finalists will be notified on or around June 22, 2022 via phone or email that they have been selected as a finalist. At the award ceremony, they will be notified along with the audience as to which, if any, prize they have won. All finalists will be offered free admission into the event along with two tickets for parents/guardians. Each of the Winners must sign, have notarized, and return, an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability, and Publicity Release (and any other documentation required by Sponsor, in its sole discretion) in order to be eligible to accept the prize or the winner will be disqualified, and the prize may be awarded to an alternate winner.

No substitution or transfer of the prizes will be allowed, except at the sole discretion of BARBECUE BATTLE® and BARBECUE BATTLE® reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Once received by winner, no compensation will be given for lost, stolen, mutilated, or expired gift cards. BARBECUE BATTLE® is not responsible for replacing lost, stolen, mutilated, or expired gift cards. Taxes

All local, state, and federal taxes incurred by accepting a prize will be the sole responsibility of the prize winner. Any person winning over $600 in prizes during any, one (1) year period will be required to fill out a W-9 form and will receive an IRS Form 1099 at the end of the calendar year, a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS. USE OF EMAIL ADDRESSES By participating in this Contest, an Entrant agrees to opt-in to receive email communications from the Sponsor. If an Entrant chooses to opt-out of such future communications from the Sponsor, he or she will be able to do so by following the instructions on any electronic communications sent by the Sponsor. Upon opting out, the Sponsor will no longer send email messages to the Entrant. An Entrant may choose to opt-out of being on any Sponsor email list during the Contest Period. An Entrant’s choice to opt-out will not affect the Entrant’s entry or chances in the Contest.

Internet

It is the Entrant’s responsibility to enter in the appropriate manner. Each Entrant is responsible for all costs or charges involved in accessing the Website and warrants that the cost of accessing the site, if any, is part of a larger agreement with an Internet Service Provider or some other means, and that the cost of this access is not an incremental cost. If for any reason the internet portion of the program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of BARBECUE BATTLE® or the Kansas City Barbeque Society which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, BARBECUE BATTLE® reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the end of the Submission Period, finalists will be drawn in each Category at day’s end from eligible entries received online up to the time of cancellation. BARBECUE BATTLE® and the Kansas City Barbeque Society assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communication line failure, theft, or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. BARBECUE BATTLE® and the Kansas City Barbeque Society are not responsible for lost, misdirected, illegible, damaged, or undelivered entries. BARBECUE BATTLE® and the Kansas City Barbeque Society are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, services or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading of any material in this Contest. CAUTION: Any attempt by an Entrant to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made; BARBECUE BATTLE® and the Kansas City Barbeque Society reserve the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. In the event of a dispute, entries made by Internet will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of such devices will cause disqualification. Collection and use of personally identifiable information will be in accordance with BARBECUE BATTLE®’s Privacy Policy as posted on its website.

Conditions

CONDITIONS
By entering, each Entrant agrees to comply with these Official Rules and the decisions of BARBECUE BATTLE®, which are binding and final, and release BARBECUE BATTLE®, and each of its divisions, affiliates, parent companies, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, the Kansas City Barbeque Society and anyone associated with the production of this Contest, and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for any claims, injuries, losses or damages (including attorney’s fees) of any kind arising out of their participation in this Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize. The potential prize winners waive the right to assert as a cost of winning the prize any and all costs of verification and redemption or travel to redeem said prize and waives any liability or claims (including attorney’s fees) which might arise from redeeming or seeking to redeem said prize. In the event of non-compliance with these Official Rules, or if prize notification is returned to BARBECUE BATTLE® as undeliverable, if prize is refused or cannot be accepted for any reason, the prize will be forfeited, and an alternate winner will be selected in a random drawing. Upon forfeiture, no compensation will be given. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use the winner’s name, photograph, likeness, Contest submissions and/or statements attributed to winners regarding the Contest, for advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation or consent. All entries become the property of BARBECUE BATTLE®, with opportunity for use by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. This Contest shall only be construed and evaluated according to the laws of the state of Maryland, without regard to the principles or conflicts of laws and submission of any entry constitutes acceptance of such laws. This Contest is void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

This Contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that an Entrant is using the Contest for gambling purposes, he/she will be disqualified and reported to authorities.

BARBECUE BATTLE®, the Kansas City Barbeque Society and its affiliates reserve the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on Entrants obtained through the Contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

BARBECUE BATTLE® and its affiliates reserve the right to change the rules of the Contest at any time.
