About the Kansas City Barbeque Society

The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, promoting and educating the public about barbeque as a distinctively American cuisine. KCBS is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts, with approximately 20,000 members in the U.S. and over 42 countries. KCBS sanctions nearly 500 barbeque contests worldwide each year; including destination contests such as the American Royal World Series of Barbeque© and the Jack Daniel’s Invitational. KCBS also hosts a year-round Team of the Year points chase; with over 2,600 pitmasters from across the United States and globally to be recognized as the KCBS Barbeque Team of the Year.

The Kansas City Barbeque Society trains and certifies barbeque judges across the United States and in 42 countries around the world. Judges go through a Certified Barbeque Class to learn the rules and scoring system; which ensures a common judging standard and scale to apply across all barbeque competitions.  KCBS currently has nearly 13,000 Certified Barbeque Judges across the country.  Visit www.kcbs.us to find a class to become a Certified Barbeque Judge or to find a barbeque contest near you.

The Kansas City Barbeque Society offers Members perks, discounts and access to a variety of barbeque content. From volunteering at barbeque contests to event production, KCBS members offer assistance to civic and charitable organizations who organize events. KCBS serves as a key influencer and powerhouse of barbeque information; partnering with related trade associations and other contest-sanctioning organizations, tracking trends in barbeque related products and teaming up with other food organizations and the media to promote barbeque. KCBS partners with brands and organizations to create custom barbeque events for consumers, as well as employee engagement.
