Tart Cherry BBQ Sauce

The tart, sweet flavors of this BBQ sauce are a great twist on a traditional cookout. Whether you’re slow cooking in the oven or showing off your skills on the grill, this sauce is sure to impress your friends and family.  

Ingredients

3 Cups Seal the Seasons NY Tart Cherries 

3 Tbsp olive oil 

2 Cloves garlic, minced  

1 Onion, diced  

1 1/2 Cups ketchup  

2/3 Cup brown sugar  

1/4 Cup apple cider vinegar  

3 Tbsp. water  

2 Tbsp. ground mustard  

1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce  

1/4 Tsp. cayenne pepper  

Salt and pepper to taste  

Instructions

  1. Thaw and drain Seal the Seasons frozen cherries 
  2. Heat olive oil in sauce pan and saute onion and garlic over medium heat until soft and fragrant. 
  3. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, whiskey, water, ground mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepperStir and bring mixture to a simmer. 
  4. Add the cherries and salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook over low heat for 20 minutes, or until sauce thickens 
  5. Once thickened, remove sauce from heat and puree in food processor until smooth.  
  6.  Let cool and enjoy!
